There are two main types of wiring configuration for Cat 5 cabling. Generally these cause no real problems as the sockets at each end are identical making it easyt to identify what connects to what. Occassionally though you may have odd sockets and then its worth knowing this information.
Old Style
1 = White of Green
2 = Green
3 = White of Orange
4 = Blue
5 = White of Blue
6 = Orange
7 = White of Brown
8 = Brown
New Style
1 = White of Orange
2 = Orange
3 = White of Green
4 = Blue
5 = White of Blue
6 = Green
7 = White of Brown
8 = Brown
