When attempting to install Windows XP fax software, a "Cannot copy file" error message is displayed.

  1. Click on Start > Run.
  2. In the dialog box that appears, type cmd.
  3. At the DOS prompt type: esentutl /g %windir%\security\database\secedit.sdb and press [ENTER]. This will check to see if the system security database is corrupted / out-of-date.
  4. If the previous command shows corruption, type: esentutl /p %windir%\security\database\secedit.sdb and press [ENTER].
  5. A warning message is displayed. Click OK.
  6. Click Start > Shut Down > Restart to reboot your system.

You will now be able to install the fax software.
